Casa DA

Rome/

/In spring 2019 a wonderful senior couple contacted me to re-design the large penthouse they just purchased. Both of them had been following my projects from some time and the brief was quite simple; a white, bright space with warm-toned floors. Given this initial input, my thought was to integrate a see-through door paneling/showcase system, both to give the living area different configurations and also to display a vast, beautiful set of ceramic items and silverware, part of the couple's heritage. The white-framed reeded glass elements are smoothly installed between kitchen, entrance and living. Daylight is constant in each area but visibility/accessibility changes depending on how the full-height panels are rotated.

The warm evenness of the ancient oak-floor gives resonance to the ceiling geometries: clean volumes drop over the functional areas, while curtain pelmets trace their lines along the walls.

The overall concept was to harmoniously re-integrate all the lifetime furniture, paintings and items into a new “box”, a space that through light and simplicity would give all give this heritage a bright, positive perspective.
